Congratulations are in order for José Andrés!
The Spanish chef was awarded a National Humanities Medal for 2015 – and luckily, was given the award by noneother than President Barack Obama.
The award is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), in order to celebrate a deeper “understanding of ourselves, our history and our culture.” Andrés joins eleven other individuals – a group comprise authors, journalists and other media personalities – for the national honor. The chef was reportedly noted for bringing “new and vibrant ingredients to our Nation, whether through his innovative techniques in the kitchen, his work on clean cooking technology and access to education, or the inspiration he provides to new Americans.” At the ceremony, Obama discussed Andés as an example of “giving immigrants an opportunity.”
Andrés, 47, officially received his U.S. citizenship just three years ago. Aside from this honor, the chef currently operates 25 restaurants – an accomplishment in and of itself.
Hopefully, Andrés’ new award can help to ward off all things Trump-esque, too.
