Exciting news for Chipotle-addicts! Chipotle and Stephen Jones’s Bread lab have finally agreed on a new, simpler, and organic tortilla recipes. In a press release yesterday, Chipotle announced that this change officially makes Chipotle the only national restaurant brand that does not use added colors, flavors, or preservatives in any of their 51 ingredients

Revamping their tortillas was no small feat, since nearly all of Chipotle’s dishes involve tortillas or chips. Unsurprisingly, it took 2 years for Chipotle to fine-tune the recipes for their tortillas until they finally landed on recipes that look not unlike your abuela’s. The new flour tortilla is now made of five ingredients; flour, water, canola oil, salt and yeast. Corn tortillas are only made of corn masa and water. The change is going to be effective in every Chipotle restaurant in America.

Chipotle has been known for making an effort to serve high quality ingredients. “I’ve been on a quest for a better tasting tortilla for years, and we finally achieved a tortilla made the way you would make them at home, and they are simply delicious. Ultimately, all of the decisions we make about the ingredients we use are about making the very best tasting food we can.” said Steve Ells, Chipotle Founder, Chairman and CEO. Hopefully this will restore Chipotle’s image as a “healthier” fast food option in the wake of scandals and price hikes.
