Who’s to say Latinas can’t have it all? Giselle Blondet is a powerhouse Puerto Rican, adding yet another title to her extensive, impressive resume. Aside from being an author, TV host, businesswoman, and mother, Blondet is now diving into the world of food with a new campaign, Tu Twist.
The campaign, created by Vive Mejor, is a lighthearted web series that hopes to inspire mamas to put a new, refreshing twist on mealtimes and family occasions, and to “celebrate her signature sazón.” Blondet will use her own family experiences in order to share kitchen hacks, life lessons, and more tips with other modern Latinas.
We caught up with Giselle to discuss her involvement with the inspiring campaign. Read the interview below to see why she’s this week’s Woman Crush Wednesday. [pagebreak]
Tell us about the inspiration for Tu Twist.
As Latinas, I think we always have our abuelitas and mamás recipes in our back pocket but change them up by putting our own special twist on it. I’ve always said that this is why as children we always think our mamás cook the best food in the world. For example, you can eat the same kind of rice made by someone else but it will never taste like the arrocito your mom made because it has its own twist.
What do you think (or hope) the campaign will achieve for Latinas/Latina moms everywhere?
I hope the campaign reminds all Latinas that life doesn’t have to be difficult for us in the kitchen. In the moment, we may feel we have more responsibilities but there’s always a solution. The products we’ve used in the video do just that – they provide an easy solution to give your favorite Latino dishes a twist while making them delicious at the same time.
How did you get involved with the project?
My personal rule is that I only do what I love and what I believe in. I’m especially passionate about this project because I’m a mother of three children, who I raised primarily by myself. I want to send women a positive message in all the work that I do and am associated with. This campaign really speaks to all women – it doesn’t matter if you’re a wife or single, we all want life in the kitchen to be a little easier.[pagebreak]
What are your go-to dishes to cook for your family?
Since I have three children, my kitchen sometimes turns into a restaurant! I always have to make each of their favorite dishes – I make lasagna, pastelón con pollo, and my picky eater always makes special requests for salads and quinoa. Bottom line, I make everything!
What does it mean to you, as a Latina mother, to be part of such an empowering program for women?
I love it and it really interests me! As women, I think it’s important to maintain a positive self-attitude and self-esteem. Once you feel in control of everything you’re doing, you’ll see it reflected in your self-esteem. This campaign is really unique because it provides everyday solutions and you also see the tastes and personal twists that each person uses in their recipes.
