On September 17th, close out the summer with the leading street food competition in New York City: the 12th annual Vendy Awards! To get our mouths watering, they’ve announced the finalists for Best Market Vendor, Best Dessert, Rookie of the Year and Best Vegan Vendor.

As you’d expect, Latin street food is very well-represented across the board. Arepalicious, a Colombian arepa truck of Queens Night Market fame, and NJS, Colombian-style hot dog makers galore, are both in the running for the Best Market Vendor category, which highlights food trucks that elevate outdoor markets with their locally-sourced dishes.

Delmy’s Obleas is another Colombian-inspired cart that’s in it to win it. Delmy, the cart’s owner and namesake, moved to the U.S. from El Salvador, switched careers, and has been selling Colombian wafers in Jackson Heights ever since. Sweet fillings like caramel and blackberry are sure to win her the title of Best Dessert vendor.

No street food competition would be complete without a taco truck. Enter Vendy newcomers and Rookie of the Year finalists: Los Viajeros. Owners Caitlyn and Carlos use Dominican, Cuban, and Mexican cuisines as inspiration for their tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Be still our pound hearts, and growling stomachs!

No word yet on the finalists for the coveted Vendy Cup, but we wait with bated breath!
