As the year comes to a close, it’s time to take stock on the 12 months past… including looking back at what we ate and predicting what we’ll be craving in the new year. And Foursquare did just that: putting out this cool graphic on nostalgic tidbits and predicting what we’ll be talking about in 2016.
So, what’s out? It seems back in January we all lost interest in food trucks (there was a 21 percent decline in visits compared to January 2014). But we found a new interest every other month!
There was an almost 200 percent increase in bubble tea shops (with the biggest jump in February), mentions of cold brew coffee shot up 148 percent, fried chicken sandwich talk increased 180 percent, and we embraced the breakfast sandwich, mentioning it 555 percent more than last year.
And where did we spend our time? On 4/20, shockingly, traffic doubled to marijuana dispensaries, there was a 10 percent increase in visits to distilleries, and we hit up bars the Wednesday before Thanksgiving in larger numbers than ever before.
Finally, we’re not surprised about what we’ll be craving in 2016. Drum roll please… it’s Latin food! Mentions of Latin food staples more than doubled this year and visits to Caribbean, Cuban, and Puerto Rican restaurants went up, up, up in 2015. And the biggest ingredient is matcha. Get on board!
