The Mexico Tourism Board is doing some groundbreaking work, y’all: they’ve come up with a cloud that rains tequila. We’re not joking.
The art installation, housed in a gallery in Berlin, is meant to inspire German tourists to hit up Mexico. It’s a fluffy white cloud floating above the floor and in front of a blue backdrop. Think: the lightest cotton candy you’ve ever seen, suspended in air. Or you know, imagine a cloud.
The cloud is synced up to weather patterns in Berlin and when it rains in Berlin, the cloud also rains tequila.
Here’s how it works:
“The tequila was pushed into an invisible plastic structure where sprays of tequila mixed with the vapor formed the cloud,” Luciana Cani, LAPIZ’s executive creative director, told The Huffington Post. “With the plastic, we created a base the vapor could form around. But the most important function of the plastic was to work as a condensation surface for the tequila mist.”
It’s a cool science experiment, for sure. But here’s the thing: we were kind of… meh about it? As an installation itself, it’s a touch ethereal but also, somewhat out of place in the art gallery.
The gallery is in East Berlin, home to graffiti artists, street art, and you know, anarchists. It’s a very corporate ad in an otherwise edgy space.
And the cloud doesn’t actually produce all that much tequila. That’s why there’s a spigot underneath the cloud so you can just pour yourself a shot. Or you could just buy a bottle and make yourself a delightful drink. Just sayin’.
So while we’re all about getting people to visit Mexico (seriously guys, go, it’s gorgeous and delicious), we’re not that into the tequila cloud.
That being said if you wanted to station it in our apartments, we’d say willkommen! and bienvenido.
