Born into the world of wine, Dr. Laura Catena is a fourth generation Argentine winemaker as well as a physician and author. Her Italian immigrant great-grandfather founded the Catena winery in Mendoza in 1902, and her father, Nicolas Catena Zapat, is often referred to as the “Robert Mondavi of Argentina” for the role he played in bringing high quality Argentine wine to the rest of the world.
In addition to her position as the Managing Director of Bodega Catena Zapata and her own Luca Winery in Mendoza Argentina, Catena is also a practicing emergency medicine physician in San Francisco, California. Prior to returning to the family business, she graduated cum laude from Harvard University and earned a medical degree from Stanford University. She's also the author of Vino Argentino: An Insiders’ Guide to the Wines and Wine Country of Argentina, an authoritative guide to the wines of her home country.
Here she shares her favorite wines, what food she misses most, and what you should pour on special occassions.
