Though it’s been almost two months since La Taqueria took home the gold for the James Beard Foundation’s “America’s Classics” category, award season for foodies has only just begun. Earlier today at a breakfast in Los Angeles, Susan Ungaro, JBF president, announced the 2017 nominees for the James Beard Awards.
Candidates were named for nearly 60 categories spanning everything from “Best Chef” to “Best Food Documentary”. As always, the Latin community was well-represented. In the running this time around is Chef Hugo Ortiz honored for his work at Hugo’s, Chef Virgilio Martinez for his new book Central, and Pati Jinich for her work on Pati’s Mexican Table.
