This is the day children wake up to a surprise from the Easter bunny, wear their Sunday best, and look forward to an Easter egg hunt and lots of sweet treats. Easter is a great way to share your Latino Easter traditions and incorporate new ones. Below are ideas for giving children something to do at Easter beyond eating chocolate bunnies.
Easter Table
Welcome springtime visitors with easy Easter centerpieces and table settings. Decorations should be a fusion of Easter symbols, fresh blossoms, and the scents of spring. Create simple arrangements with spring flowers such as tulips and daffodils in pretty vases and bottles or make an Easter tree with tree branches arranged in a pail filled with sand. Decorate the branches with paper butterflies, birds, and blown-out egg ornaments.
Make Cascarones
Start saving your eggshells or ask your guests to bring their own. Weather permitting, set up an egg-decorating table outside. Cover a table with newspaper, craft paper, or a colorful vinyl tablecloth. Be sure to have plenty of napkins handy for little decorators to dry their hands or to mop up any spills. Teach the kids how to dye the eggshells, fill with confetti, and cover the hole with tissue paper.
Easter Egg Hunt
Hide all the cascarones for an Easter egg hunt. After the egg hunt, teach the children how to carefully break them over the head of someone else. Legend has it that it’s good luck if you have a cascarón broken over your head.
Excellent Eggs
You can’t have an Easter brunch without eggs. This Ham and Sweet Potato Hash is sure to impress even the pickiest little eaters.
Fruit Pizza
Kids deserve a treat and rather than a sweet chocolate dessert, try this Rustic Mango and Strawberry Galette. This dessert is a real showstopper for children and adults.
