This August 16 marks National Rum Day in the U.S. To celebrate, many restaurants and bars are spicing up their menus to include more rum cocktails, as well as hosting unique cocktail events leading up to the big day.
Among them is Cuba, a longstanding NYC spot located in the heart of the West Village. For each day leading up to National Rum Day, Cuba will offer a custom cocktail that features rum as its main ingredient. During this time - what Cuba is calling "Mixology Week" - guests can enjoy $12 rum drinks ranging from a mellow Melon Ball Mojito to a daring Mezcla Cubana.
The restaurant is also marking a celebration of its own - its tenth anniversary - and will create new dishes to honor the occasion. On the menu are Cuban specialties chicharon prensado and ceviche de langosta, which owner Beatriz de Armas infuses with a blend of traditional ingredients and modern flair.
Taken together, the classic fare and creative rum cocktails are a winning combination. Cuba's "Mixology Week" runs August August 8th to August 15th.
