Bust out your bathing suit! It’s time to head to Cali for the fourth annual L.A. Food and Wine festival, happening August 21st through August 24th. It's 3 hot days and 4 long nights of cooking, dinners, tastings, events, and more and we can't wait!
Though in between all that deliciousness, we'll need a place to rest, relax, and get ready to do it all over again the next day. So if you're headed this way too, take note, here, our picks for where to stay in Los Angeles.
And for up-to-the second delicious coverage, stay tuned to our Out in the World blog and Facebook and Twitter pages. If you see our editors Marie Elena Martinez (@mariesworlds) or Amanda Cargill (@AmandaSi) at the festival, say hi!
No stay in Los Angeles is complete without a stay at the swank Standard Hotel, located in the financial district between Bunker Hill and the Staples Center. The 207-room property has a rooftop pool, a Biergarten, a cafe bar with panoramic views of L.A., a 24-hour restaurant, and a ping pong club (opened with actress Susan Sarandon). In the rooms, you'll find chic platform beds, free wifi, iPod docking stations, extra long work desks, oversized showers, and earth friendly bath amenities. If you want to work off the calories from those extra meals, there's a 24 hour gym or dance them away while you catch the live nightly DJ. And if you need to clean up before hitting the fest, you can pop into the barbershop.
Next, two hotels central to the action… [pagebreak]
The JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live Hotel is just steps away from the festival; the 54-story building is a stunning focal point for the L.A. Live entertainment complex. So when the craving hits, you’ll be able to make your way to the fest faster than you can finish a cocktail. The 100,000 square foot property boasts more than 800 rooms and 73 suites, access to the luxe Ritz Carlton Spa, a rooftop pool, and access to 4 full service restaurants, including Wolfgang Puck's WP24 and LA Market Restaurant. Of course, in the room you’ll find every amenity, including down pillows and marble bathrooms. But with so much to check out, you won’t be spending much time there anyways.
Also located near every possible L.A. attraction you might want to visit and near the festival, is the classic Ritz Carlton hotel. The modern glass-clad property has 123 guest rooms, including 13 suites; access to the award-winning WP24; an outdoor rooftop heated swimming pool and jacuzzi with amazing city and mountain views; and a huge fitness center (to work off the festival indulgences, of course). In the rooms, you’ll find complimentary wifi, feather beds, and even a tv in the bathroom mirror, so you don’t miss a moment of L.A. Food and Wine coverage!
Next, we're heading out of the city… [pagebreak]
If the beach is calling your name, head to the Viceroy in Santa Monica, just 2 blocks from the famous Santa Monica pier. The 162-room property has two gorgeous outdoor plunge pools, a 24-hour gym, in-room “beauty bars” with full-sized spa products, and is home to the delish Cameo Bar and Cast Restaurant. The hotel also prides itself on their green initiatives, including a drip irrigation system for trees and flowers; a state-of-the-art system that enables the hotel to make non-toxic and hypoallergenic cleaning products in-house; and a leak detection system for all fixtures.
If you'd rather not stay in a hotel and are looking for your own space, check out AirBnB. The site features lodging in more than 30,000 cities and 190 countries around the world with more than 350,000 hosts. And they’ve done their homework: guests and hosts verify their IDs on social networks (so you know who you're meeting), you can check out detailed profiles and reviews; and guests can message and pay through a secure platform. We got our eye on this modern Spanish home, a completely remodeled duplex with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, within walking distance of Beverly Hills, the Grove, and Melrose. House party after the festival, anyone?
