Our favorite Latin chefs are heating up Fall with some delicious looking new restaurant openings. From Baltimore to Las Vegas and every place in between, here are restaurant openings we can’t wait for!
Johnny Sanchez, Baltimore
Chefs: John Besh, Aarón Sánchez
If you follow either of these chefs on social media, you’ve known about this mouthwatering project. The Johnny Sanchez taqueria will open in late summer at the brand new Horseshow Casino and the chefs are teaming up for the entire menu of tacos, tostadas, beer, and wine. Besh described the menu as “fun, whimsical farm-to-table tacos and a fun, casual Mexican food and tequila bar all in one.” If you can’t make it to Baltimore, no worries. The duo is also planning a Johnny Sanchez for New Orleans, where Besh already owns six restaurants.
Minero, Charleston
Chef: Sean Brock
James Beard Award winning Southern chef Sean Brock is trying his hand at Mexican food, opening up Minero in late September. The restaurant will be small, casual, and affordable and will take up the space next to McCrady’s, Brock’s first restaurant. Though Brock’s PR has been tight lipped, you can occasionally catch snaps of the restaurant on Brock’s Instagram, including this one of a tortillas press.
Bazaar Meat by José Andrés, Las Vegas
Chefs: José Andrés
The SLS Las Vegas officially opened in Late August and with it brought the very hot Bazaar Meat by José Andrés, which began taken reservations three months before opening. José Andrés told Eater that though “most people will describe it as a steakhouse," he wants to "do so much more than that" like a raw meat bar option.

Chef: Enrique Olvera
Mexican chef Enrique Olvera is dipping his toe into the U.S. restaurant waters with Cosme, opening, vaguely, in the Fall. The restaurant has a lot of buzz: Olvera’s Mexico City restaurant, Pujol, is consistently ranked among the best in the world. According to Eater, the restaurant will “be rooted in Mexican flavors and traditions” but will use local ingredients from the Hudson Valley and beyond. Word is Olvera also has his eye on a tortillera in Brooklyn.
China Chilcano, Washington D.C.
Chef: José Andrés
José Andrés is a busy man, opening up China Chilcano in later this fall. The restaurant will be devoted to Peru’s Chifa cuisine, a mixture of Asian and Peruvian influences. So what can you expect on the menu? Guinea pig, for sure. But also “ceviche, fried rice, and dumplings.” No web site but you can check in here for updates.
Arguello, San Francisco
Chef: Traci Des Jardins
Traci Des Jardins is opening up a second restaurant in San Francisco’s Presidio neighborhood, Arguello, in October. The restaurant, which will be located at the historic Presidio Officer’s Club, will be a “more upscale, sit-down conception of Mexican than Des Jardins’ fast-casual Mijita outposts,” according to Eater SF. With almost 120 seats and a 22-seat bar, we’re hoping to snag a spot.
Tijuana Picnic, New York
Chef: Alex Lopez
Tijuana picnic will be a Latin/Asian fusion restaurant from the group behind Indochine and Acme. Alex Lopez, who graced the kitchens at Kittichai, is putting together a menu that involves “galangal-marinated chicken tacos” and “roasted pork neck with Thai spiced chimichurri.”

This resto will be big and multi faceted, at 267 seats and providing poolside and bar service and room service and catering. The hotel is taking reservations for November 1 so expect the restaurant to be up and running by then.
Empellon St. Marks, New York
Chef: Alex Stupak

Amada, New York
Chef: Jose Garces
Philly chef Jose Garces is traveling up to NYC, opening up his first restaurant, Amada, in the massive dining and retail space Brookfield Place, in the former World Financial Center. The restaurant will be open all day and serve everything from soups to tapas to sandwiches.
Unamed George Mendes Restaurant, New York
