Chances are, you know someone who vows to remain meat-free, even when sitting before delicious platters of chorizo y jamón. But have you ever seen them slip up and drool over an irresistible hunk of red meat?
New reports from a UK website suggest that vegetarians put their meatless minds aside when under the influence of alcohol. In particular, one-third (approximately 34%) of the respondents admitted to eating meat every time they are drinking on a night out.
The results also showed that vegetarians are likely to crave even the most carnivorous of meats – including kebab, beef burgers, and bacon. These supposed meatless individuals aren’t proud of their actions, though. A majority of 69% said they didn’t admit to others that they ate meat.
So, why do the usually strict vegetarians reach for meat after alcohol? First We Feast notes that one social psychologist explains “most of the people who cheat on their non-meat-eating regimen after they’ve had a few drinks are likely vegetarian for health reasons, not moral ones.” Therefore, these individuals are more inclined to actually want meat, as opposed to those who are disgusting by the though of a juicy burger.
