The Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list, which is determined by the votes of 252 members of the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, was announced last night in Mexico City.

The list’s top five consists of Central in Lima, Peru; Boragó in Santiago, Chile; Astrid y Gastón in Lima, Peru; D.O.M. in São Paulo, Brazil; and Maido in Lima, Peru. According to the World’s 50 Best press release, Mexico and Argentina are the countries with the most restaurants on the list, each with ten. Mexico City held, in particular was well-represented with three restaurants in the top ten.

The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award went to 39-year-old Enrique Olvera, who took the number nine spot for Mexico City’s Pujol. Roberta Sudbrack won the Veuve Clicquot Latin America’s Best Female Chef Award.

William Drew, Editor of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants says, “This is our third year in Latin America… and we can clearly see why this region’s food includes some of the most exciting and appealing in the world. We witness the creation of marvelous dishes and restaurant experiences from very talented chefs every year, and the trend doesn’t look likely to stop.”
