Raise your hand if you've had a slice of pie for breakfast... or lunch... or dinner. You're not alone! According to the American Pie Council more than $700 million in pies is sold every year, just at grocery stores. Pies have become so popular that they even have their own holiday, National Pie Day, happening December 1. Pies have come a long way since their first appearance at the Pilgrims table in 1623. Now you can find them all sorts of flavors, shapes, and sizes. To celebrate this delicious day, we're baking up our five favorite pies, from savory to sweet. Have a slice (or two). And save some for breakfast!
Not all pies have to be sweet. To satisfy that savory craving, try a turkey pot pie! Shred a store bought turkey breast and mix with the classic combo of celery, onion, and carrot and spice blend of cumin and chile powder, toss in some jalapenos for spice, and top with a cornmeal crust.
