    cones of piloncillo or 2 cups of dark brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of molasses

    green apple, peeled and sliced

    plantain, peeled and sliced

    mixed dried fruit

    large taleras, cut into 1-inch pieces and toasted (substitute with French bread)

    mixed nuts, toasted

    cup
    skim milk
    1/2
    cup
    evaporated milk
    Directions
    Step 1
    Preheat the oven to 350F. Bring 2 cups water, piloncillo, cloves and cinnamon to a simmer. Stir well and simmer until the piloncillo falls apart, 20 to 30 minutes.
    Step 2
    Remove the pot from the heat and add the apple, plantains and dried fruit. Cool.
    Step 3
    In a 9x13-inch baking dish, place a layer of bread, drizzle with some piloncillo mixture and sprinkle with some nuts. Repeat 2 to 3 times.
    Step 4
    Combine evaporated and skim milk. Pour over capirotada.
    Step 5
    Bake uncovered for 30 minutes.
