In just one week, Cancun will be a buzz with gourmets and foodies attending Cancun-Riviera Maya’s Wine & Food Festival. The four day celebration of the ingredients, wine, spirits, music, and culinary talents of the Americas will take place March 13th through March 16th, 2014.
Popular perception of Cancun is evolving from “college spring break destination” to “foodie wonderland”, due in large part to the inspiring Mexican culinary landscape from which so many influential chefs have emerged in recent decades. The third annual Cancun Wine & Food Festival aims to enhance the latter perception by presenting "Cancun as a top culinary destination and [bringing] to the forefront the importance and professional labor of the Mexican gastronomy.”
To this end, several weekend events like Guadalupe Valley: The Jewel of Baja Wine Country, and Tribute Lunch to Guest of Honor Chef Guillermo González Beristáin, will showcase Mexico’s many culinary contributions.
Additionally, this year’s theme, “Europe Meets the Americas”, promises attendees many opportunities to taste and learn about delicacies that exceed Mexico’s borders. Argentina: Beyond Malbec, French Delights and Sinful Desserts, and Tribute Lunch to Guest of Honor Daniel Boulud (French Cuisine Around the World) are only some of the eclectic international events set to take place next week.
The festival's most anticipated event is undoubtedly the Gourmet Tasting Village, which takes place on both the 15th and 16th of March. This event allows guests to sample dishes by multiple participants, among them more than a dozen of Cancun’s finest restaurants and international winemakers, and enjoy educational cooking demos and celebrity chef challenges. The latter, modeled after the popular Food Network program “Iron Chef”, pits chefs representing their native Latin countries against one another in the equivalent of a culinary face-off.
The Gourmet Tasting Village will be hosted by and housed in the idyllic Palace Golf & Spa Resort, wherein guests can enjoy their favorite Latin foods and beverages overlooking one hundred acres of tropical gardens and views of Cancun's tranquil south shore.
