Cheers! Puerto Rico’s Caribe Hilton Pina Colada Turns 60!

Some very special birthday wishes are in order: Puerto Rico’s Caribe Hilton Piña Colada turns 60 next month!

If you’re wondering, yes, this is indeed the original Piña Colada recipe, the one that has inspired so many imitations, the one that you crave when you’re laying on the beach, working on your tan.

In 1954 Ramon Monchito Marrero created the Piña Colada while working the bar at the Caribe Hilton (where he worked for 35 years until his retirement in 1989). The bar continued to served the drink, legacy now, and the cocktail ultimately became the official drink of Puerto Rico!

To celebrate, the Caribe Hilton is hosting mixology classes at the hotel’s Oasis Bar, a sweepstakes, and a Piña Colada Festival on August 16!

If you can’t make it the Isla del Encanto, don’t despair. Rustle up a few cocktail umbrellas, mix up their recipe, throw on some shades, and head outside and enjoy.
