5 Cocktails Inspired by the Trends at New York Fashion Week

What do Fashion Week and food have to do with each other? Well, a lot, depending on who you're asking. Here at The Latin Kitchen, we make everything about food, so it wasn't hard to see the resemblance between some of these cocktail recipes and the trends we've been seeing make their way down the runway at New York Fashion Week.

Inspired by this incredible video made by the International Culinary Center of a model EATING a Chanel bag on the NYC subway and Bon Appetit's 15 look-alike recipes, we're officially in a (foodie) Fashion Week frenzy. To celebrate with our own twist (literally and metaphorically), we rounded up cocktails inspired by Fashion Week's latest trends, some Latin, some too-interesting and spot-on to ignore.

Sin Nombre

Served at Bar Naná in NYC

Angel Sanchez Runway, Bar Nana Cocktail Recipe

Elegant and sophisticated with modern flair just like Venezuelan designer Angel Sanchez's collection this season.


  • Egg white
  • 1 oz cognac
  • 1 oz calvados
  • 1 3/4 oz Absynthe
  • 2.5 oz simple syrup

Preparation: Dry shake, shaken down, served up, coup. Garnish with one grind coco sugar.


The Fashionista

Betsey Johnson Runway

Aptly-named, this cocktail reminds us of Betsey Johnson's funky purple sequin dress that screamed fun, fun, fun all the way down the catwalk.


  • 1 1/2 parts Sauza® Blue Silver 100% Agave Tequila
  • 1 1/2 parts frozen limeade
  • 3 parts fruit punch soda
  • Lime wedge

Preparation: Combine tequila, limeade, and fruit punch soda in a cocktail shaker. Shake well. Rim your cocktail glass by wetting the edge with a lime wedge. Garnish with a lime.


Fashion House

Flirty and floral, just like the dresses at Erin Fetherston's Fall/Winter 2014 presentation.


  • 2 parts Skinnygirl™ Tangerine Vodka
  • 1 large muddled strawberry
  • Splash of orange juice
  • Splash of club soda
  • Orchid, for garnish

Preparation: Combine vodka, strawberry and orange juice over ice and stir. Top with club soda. Garnish with an orchid.


My Bloody Bacontine

Furs of every color are making their way down the runways this season and this spicy number reminded us of a half-fur, half-reptile-of-some-kind coat at Dennis Basso. Both the outerwear and the cocktail are sure to keep you warm all winter long.

Dennis Basso Runway


  • 2 oz Mama Walker Maple Bacon
  • 4 oz tomato juice
  • 1.5 oz Balsamic Vinegar
  • 4 dashes of hot sauce
  • Juice of ½ of a lemon
  • Sprinkle of sea salt
  • Sprinkle of black pepper
  • 1 tsp of Horseradish
  • 1 bacon slice

Preparation: Add all ingredients to a shaker and roll back and forth. Add ice to a highball glass and pour the drink directly in the glass over ice. Garnish with a bacon slice.

Legal In Vermont

Served at JIMMY at the James Hotel, NYC

Inspired by the rich brown and tan colors seen at Alice + Olivia, the shiso element matches up with the designer's "A Midwinter Night's Dream" theme.


  • Shiso
  • 2 oz Knob Creek
  • ½ oz Maple Syrup
  • ½ oz Cinnamon Syrup                                   
  • 3 dashes of Orange Bitters

Prepartaion: Muddle shiso in a tin. Shake all other ingredients with ice and strain into rocks glass. Add cinnamon ice block and shiso.
