Have you ever wondered how much tequila it took to make the world’s largest margarita? Or how about the record set for the longest tamale? Check out our list of the world’s biggest, record breaking Latin themed treats and events.

Margarita: Going down in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2012, the largest margarita was created in Sacramento, California by Nick Nicora of Ovations Food Services. The new Guinness world record was set at the California State Fair at Cal Expo for the largest cocktail; a 10,500 gallon Calarita Margarita. The Calarita Margarita took more than 20 community volunteers, a 25-foot tall tank, and a 20-horse power blender. The drink contains 4,650 bottles (or 2,100 gallons) of Jose Cuervo Gold Tequila, 8,400 gallons of margarita mix, which includes 50 gallons of lime mix, and 20 gallons of Cointreau liqueur. Talk about the world’s worst hangover.

Avocado: Nicknamed the “Avozilla,” the largest avocado recorded weighed in at 2.86 pounds. Not heavy enough for you? At a length of seven-and-a-half inches, the “Avozilla” comes from only four trees grown by one of the world's biggest suppliers of avocados in South Africa. So if you’re tired of buying several avocados and playing the waiting game, purchasing this one will be more than enough for that bowl of guacamole. The buttery green giant was first sold in Britain at £3 per avocado.

Tamale: The record has yet to be broken for the world’s longest tamale. In 2012, over 150 volunteers came together in Monterrey, Mexico to assemble a 459-foot tamale. With a width of 35 inches, the beef filled corn husk was sliced into 10,000 pieces and distributed throughout 30 local neighborhoods. How’s that for a hot tamale?

Churro: Got a sweet tooth? So does Edmontonian Luis Caro and his family. On August 6, 2000, they baked the world's largest churro, measuring 252.62 feet in length and weighing in at 66.13 pounds. The sugary treat was made for the Heritage Days Festival in Edmonton, Canada. How did they achieve this? Caro placed the dough in a vat that contained 120 liters of oil and let it fry. The costly churro chimed in at a total of $7000 Canadian dollars. That is one pricey pastry.

Cubano: Reclaiming the title from Miami, Tampa has set the record for the world’s largest Cubano. In March 2014, an 86.2-foot sandwich was revealed at the Cuban Sandwich Festival in Ybor City. Comprised of 87 feet of Cuban bread and all the fixings (ham, pork, salami, Swiss cheese, pickles and mustard), the sandwich was assembled with the help of several restaurants and bakeries in the community. The behemoth sub was donated to a local charity to feed the area’s homeless.

Mariachi Band: Not your average garage band, the largest musical medley occurred in Tucson in April 2010. An impressive 556 musicians donned sombreros and played traditional instruments for twelve minutes straight, thus breaking the Guinness Book of World Records for the most members in a mariachi band.
