“The appeal of a Latin-inspired burger is the fusion of spice and flavors; its a unique twist on a traditional classic that is sure to impress even the most picky of eaters,” says Chef Mariko Amekodommo, the blogger and pink-haired known for her Culinary Adventures with Mariko.

Turkey and Chorizo Burger with Coffee Chocolate Mole

What she loves about this burger?

“I absolutely love this burger because it’s as fantastic for a backyard barbecue as a weekday dinner,” says Amekodommo. “Served with avocado and shredded cabbage, it’s a fresh, healthy and complete meal the whole family will enjoy. What I especially love about this burger is the mole; it is rich and sweet in flavor – and goes perfect with the spicy chorizo.”

Burger:

  • 6 bolio rolls, or your favorite hamburger bun
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 pound chorizo sausage ground or in casings
  • 1 onion – chopped
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup cotija cheese, crumbled
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup of water (for moisture)

Chocolate Coffee Mole:

  • 1 cup drained stewed tomatoes (from a 14-ounce can)
  • 3/4 cup strong brewed coffee
  • 1/4 cup chopped onion
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon chopped canned chipotle chiles in adobo
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped bittersweet chocolate (not unsweetened)

The Manhattan Latin Burger

“This is my burger – I was born in Cuba but have been living and cooking in Manhattan for years,” says Garcia. “At A.G. Kitchen, I am bringing together my love and knowledge for traditional Latin cuisine and classic American comfort food. And the Manhattan Latin burger is just that: a nice and thick brisket blend burger topped with thick-cut double-smoked bacon, fresh guacamole and our special AG sauce.”

Burger:

  • 1 grilled to temp 8 ounce A.G. Kitchen custom La Frieda house blend burger
  • 3 pieces of crispy applewood smoked bacon
  • 3 ounces A.G. Classic Guacamole
  • 2 slices of sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 potato bun
  • A.G. Sauce
  • Lettuce, tomato slices & red onion slices

Guacamole:

  • 1 avocado, remove pit and dice
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons plum tomato, cut into petals and diced
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons jalapenos, diced (more to be spicier)
  • 4 tablespoons white onion, diced


A.G. Sauce:

  • 1 quart mayonnaise
  • 6 roasted red peppers, small dice
  • 1 Cup sweet relish
  • ¼ cup pimenton (spanish paprika)
  • 2 lemons, juice only

MexiBBQ Burger

“It’s not too complicated but still highlights certain hallmarks of Mexican cooking,” says VanSleet.

Burger:

  • 7oz beef burger – blend of ground sirloin, shortrib and brisket

  • 2 tbsp shredded cheddar cheese

  • 2 tbsp. caramelized onions

  • 2 tbsp. pico de gallo

  • 2 tbsp. shredded lettuce

  • 2 slices sliced avocado

  • chipotle aioli to taste

  • brioche bun

Chipotle Aioli:

  • 1-2 canned chipotle peppers, with sauce

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • 3 ounces cream cheese

  • ¼ cup cider vinegar

  • 4 cups mayonnaise
  • Salt to taste

Chile Relleno Burger (Border Burger)

What she loves about this burger?

“I love the ooze of cheese from the chile relleno atop the meat patty and the earthy roasted pepper flavors all mingling,” says Milliken.  “I like a smallish patty (due to the richness of the chile relleno accompaniment) and I love the soft bun and crunchy chipotle thousand island.”

Burger:

  • 6 hamburger buns, preferably brioche
  • 2 1/4 pounds ground chuck, formed into patties
  • Chipotle thousand island (see recipe below)
  • 6 ounces romaine, julienned
  • 6 slices tomatoes
  • 6 Chiles Rellenos (see recipe below)
  • 6 serrano chiles, grilled
  • Sea salt, to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Chipotle Thousand Island:

  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 to 1 chipotle chile in adobo sauce, minced
  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup dill pickles, diced
  • 1/4 cup roasted poblano, peeled, seeded, and diced
  • 1/4 cup finely diced red onion
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • 2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Chiles Rellenos:

  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons grated Mexican manchego cheese
  • 1 cup plus 2 tablespoons grated panela cheese
  • 3/4 cup grated cotija cheese
  • 6 large poblano chiles, roasted, peeled*, slit lengthwise down one side, seeded, stem removed
  • Flour for coating
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
